Cultivating peace - one seed at a time 
The Center for the Promotion of Peace (CPOP) donated two 4' x 8' gardens to the Broadway Housing Community located in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. A Ribbon Cutting ceremony, garden planting, and reception celebration took place on March 3, 2007.  Residents from the Broadway Community gathered around the new garden boxes. We all watched as two of the residents cut the red ribbons to initiate their new gardens. 
CPOP members worked together with the residents from the Broadway Housing facility in planting a variety of vegetable seeds. Kat, the manager, and the residents will take turns caring for and sustaining their gardens. 
A "shovel" was given to the Broadway Housing Community as a symbolic gesture that it takes hard work to cultivate, and yet the fruits of their labor will bring joy to many.
